Raw Pleasure In 2010 Print

Happy New Year from us at Raw Pleasure! We enter 2010 with enthusiasm and a sparkle in our eyes and hope it's the same for you! We are heading in an exciting new direction this year and hope you will take the journey with us. In order for us to tell you about our new pathways, we need to give you a little back ground.

Recently we have felt a little sad when visiting some of our favourite raw food sites. We are seeing more and more strong marketing and more and more rows of plastic packaging. We know that once people start eating raw food they feel amazing and want to work with it in order to have others feel amazing too which is fantastic! However we don't want to be an online supermarket. We have a small range of goodies to help you get started. To inspire you to find your own feet in the raw kitchen. But, as we said, we do not want to be an online supermarket.

So we sat down and really thought about what raw food means to us. How have we changed? What matters to us? One of the things that really matters to us is using as little plastic as possible. Another thing is to become more aware of where our food comes from. We've done this already in learning about cruelty and removing most meat from our diets (I still have fish once a month) and removing all dairy from our diets.http://raw-pleasure.com.au/images/stories/garden%20before%20medium.jpg

But what we've also recently learned is that when a field is turned over by heavy machinery to prepare it for the next crop of carrots, beetroot, onions, lettuce, spinach, kale etc, hundreds, if not thousands of small animals and insects per acre are killed. In the USA this includes moles which live under but close to the surface and we learned from a farmer in Victoria Australia that wombats are commonly but inadvertently killed by farm machinery. Any animal that lives underground dies a horrible death. Which shocked us. A lot! We'd not thought of that.

So we thought, how can we eat so that we are harming as little as possible? And the best way we can think of is to grow our own. We are turning our current garden into a food forest. Check out our youtube video for a tour of our current garden. We will share with you as we go along by video blogging on youtube, updates on our forum and through the newsletter as well.

But will this inspire anyone who is not lucky enough to have a back yard? What about people who live in units and only have a balcony to grow on? Or those who have only a teeny tiny amount of space? Well we are going to have some balcony gardens also. We have a decking with an area that gets afternoon sun and an area that gets no direct sunlight so we'll be seeing what we can grow in these areas also. We will have small gardens within the larger garden so we can experiment for those who have small patches of land to work with.

We hope you will learn with us and share your ideas and experience with us.  It's such an exciting start to our year. We feel fully energised and thrilled to be able to do this with you beside us. Thank you!
